A short post

I made the mistake this morning of reading the news as soon as I had taken my first sip of Yorkshire tea, instead of glancing at it AFTER doing Connections on the New York Times puzzle page. The dystopian wider world was just too much to cope with in an early morning state of mind.

So I turned away, and drunk more tea, and did the puzzles and felt slightly better. Some people I know think Wordle is the be all and end all, but I prefer Connections. Have you tried it? Sometimes it’s a bit too American to be possible, but most days I can have a decent bash at it, and so far - sometimes with Dave’s help - I have a 71% success rate. If I have any remaining ambitions in life apart from having a painting in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, it’s to get to a 75% cumulative score on Connections, which is much less achievable than it sounds.

The other gentle thing to do first thing as an antidote to the need is to turn to Garrison Keillor’s Writing page on his website. It usually make me smile.
