School milk redux

On the other hand, I am very, very, very, lucky to have a big warm bed and someone to share it with and NO ice on the inside of my window panes, and there are definite advantages to being grown up and free to decide I’m going to stay in bed an extra hour with Victoria Wood on my laptop to make me laugh, and deux pains au chocolat, which I bought the day before as a prophylactic against early morning angst.

And anyway, I did always think that the school milk looked odd when it froze and popped out of the bottles in those little columns, so I didn’t fancy drinking it, and nor did I like sitting cross-legged on the floor in infant class at story-time behind that boy who got his hankie out and wrapped it round his index finger and then licked it and spent the whole of Little Red Riding Hood picking the scab on his knee.

Who was that boy?

LOL...I think we've all had that boy/girl in our class who liked to pick the scab on a knee or elbow ;)

I've only watched a few a long time ago. Patricia Routledge used to have a slot as "Kitty" on the Victoria Wood show, though, and I loved her in that.

Sue, may I ask how you use the Marmite? Originally, I thought it was a jam, like marmalade. Come to find out it is quite a potent B-vitamin source. Is there any way to use it that does not involve bread?

I asked Dave about alternative uses for Marmite,and he suggested anti-freeze because it's so salty. No comment. I love it with butter on toast - preferably hot buttered toast. You could have it on buttered oatcakes, or crackers, and I sometimes use it as a vegetarian stock. It is salty and it is strong, so a little goes a long way.

I don't know if you'll see this comment or not, 2 months later. I finally purchased a small jar of Marmite (had to travel 40 miles). Yesterday I spread it very thinly on a piece of rye bread, toasted with butter and I LOVE it. I'll try the stock idea too. Thanks for the suggestions...I take it Dave doesn't enjoy Marmite? :)
