Dubious humour

When I was young I despised slapstick as an inferior sort of comedy. I was a little bit iffy about puns as well. Now – in the right circumstances - I enjoy them both, and I am wondering whether I should be worried. I don’t class myself as an intellectual, but is this new taste in comedy a sign that I’m becoming even more lowbrow than I was already?

What prompted this little question? I was taking down my birthday cards, and laughing at a couple. Here is one (designed by Simon Spicer) from my sister Jen…

And another – in the Knitted Icons range (copyright The Art Group) -from my schoolfriend Jackie, who remembers how much I wanted to be like Audrey Hepburn, in those halcyon days when my hair was still dark brown. As she said in her email… “A knitted version is probably the closest any of us will come now...”
